From Banking Systems
Building Businesses Online
Technology has been my career. Building businesses online became the next chapter.
My journey into website design and digital marketing began long before WordPress and social media. I spent around 27 years in the financial sector, including 17 years with Standard Bank and later working with Nedbank on electronic banking and EFT systems.
Working with banking systems taught me to look beyond the technology itself. A system has to work properly, make sense to the people using it and, ultimately, serve a business purpose.
A website is not simply a collection of pages. It is a business system.
It needs to work, make sense to customers, simplify the business owner’s life and, most importantly, produce results.
From Systems Development to the Web
In 2004, I took my experience in technology, systems development and business processes in a new direction and began working independently in Website Design and Digital Marketing.
Over the years, I have built websites using WordPress and WooCommerce, while gaining practical experience in e-commerce, SEO, Google Ads, online payments, stock management, delivery systems and business process integration.
I don’t believe in building a website simply because a business “needs a website.” I want to understand the business behind it — its customers, products, processes and goals — and then build a website that supports those goals.
Building More Than a Website
One project that brought many of these skills together was an e-commerce website I designed and managed for a dairy farm in South Africa.
The website became part of the day-to-day operation of the business. Customers could order and pay online, while the system supported recurring orders, stock control and delivery management.
I saw first-hand what happens after the customer clicks “Place Order.”
That experience gave me a deeper understanding of the systems and processes that sit behind an online business — not just the website that customers see.
My Approach
There are plenty of people who can build websites. My approach is different because I combine technology, business systems and digital marketing.
I believe a small business needs a website that is:
- Professional and easy to use.
- Easy for the owner to manage.
- Easy for customers to find.
- Designed around the business.
- Built to generate results.
A Different Perspective
My career has given me experience in technology, business, systems, e-commerce and digital marketing — as well as the practical experience of operating a business that depends on its website.
That allows me to look at a website from both sides: the technology behind it and the business in front of it.
I don’t want to simply sell you a website and disappear. I want to understand your business, identify opportunities for improvement and build an online presence that genuinely helps you move forward.
More Than Website Design
A website is often only one part of what a business needs online. Depending on the business, it may also need e-commerce, online payments, search engine optimisation, advertising, product management, customer communication or integration with existing business processes.
My experience across these areas allows me to consider how the different pieces fit together rather than looking at the website in isolation.
Whether you are starting from scratch or already have an established website, I look for practical ways technology can make the business easier to operate and easier for customers to find.
Making the Internet Work for Your Business
After many years of working with technology and business systems, I still enjoy turning ideas into practical solutions.
Whether you need your first professional website, want to improve your online presence or are looking to grow an e-commerce business, my goal is simple:
Use technology to help your business work better and grow.
Let’s Build Something That Works for Your Business
Your website should do more than simply exist online. It should help your customers find you, understand what you offer and take the next step.
